"DEOLALI" June 46 ,5 WING.

Deolali was a British army camp 100 miles north-east of Mumbai (then called Bombay).

Re: "DEOLALI" June 46 ,5 WING.

In a typical forces play on a name that's where the expression 'going doolali' comes from...There wasn't much going on there apparently and being stuck there waiting for a move was considered pretty boring....A bit like 'stir crazy'!!....Ian

Re: "DEOLALI" June 46 ,5 WING.

Originally the British Army had a sanitorium there for fever cases and 'going doolali' meant going mad, before the more general description of the stress caused by boredom induced inactivity....Ian

Yes. Frank Richards describes the Doolali tap in his excellent book "Old soldier Sahib".
