Re: Impressed/local purchase Norton model 19 engine
This engine was fitted to a Model 19 with sidecar gearing (standard on the 19 and Big 4 for 1937 unless otherwise requested) despatched to the Liverpool dealer Vic Horsman in July 1937.
Presumably then fitted with a chair by the first owner.
Oddly, the 1937 range catalogue illustrations show a hastily artist-added clamp-on CVC unit on the left hand saddle stay (no sign of the bracketry). The dynamo though remains clearly of the "Third Brush" type.
Re: Impressed/local purchase Norton model 19 engine
This may go some way to explaining the existence of a 1937 sidecar geared 600cc Norton with a mid 1940 serial (thanks to Jan/Rewdco for copying so much interesting stuff at the VMCC library while I was staring with glazed eyes at Norton factory ledgers ! :relaxed: )
I'm still not clear what the War Office intended for passenger body sidecars..There is no evidence of any tactical use for them..Presumably just War Office liason ?
