Rider instruction book BSA, some help needed.

Hi all,

We have had some discussions on this forum about rider instruction booklets in the past. Some people even shared photos of their collection of rider instruction books. I have saved most of these photos as some of the booklets provide additional information about 'missing' contracts in O&M.

The photo below was also on this forum, but I can not remember in which thread and who posted it. Does anyone recognize the photo below? I would like to have a better photo of the yellow booklet on the left (India Office contract, currently missing in O&M).

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Regards,
Bastiaan

That's not my image but I have a scan of an India office handbook I could send you if you want it.

Can't remember where I got this from so sorry to who ever gave it to me.

Re: Rider instruction book BSA, some help needed.

To be fair to Messrs. Orchard & Madden, their book was entitled "British Forces Motorcycles" and the India Office was a colonial oddity.

It's intriguing though....Not only are these bikes not in O&M, they're in neither the factory frame nor engine books either....Was this contract actually produced ?

Re: Rider instruction book BSA, some help needed.

I would be surprised if Henk doesn't have one!

I have a copy of the India Office C11 riders instruction book. This contract is listed in O&M and the BSA ledgers, but does anyone know of anyone who's ever seen or heard of one??

Re: Rider instruction book BSA, some help needed.

There is a gap in the BSA ledgers where this block fits except for these two, one of which is the infamous George Formby mystery M20

Frame 3373 Engine 515 05/09/1946 Croyden Alcester
Frame 3523 Engine 3523 05/02/1942 Mr George Formby

And three of these machines still exist according to the frame numbers page on this site.

Gerrit Bruggink Holland 20-02-1940 WM20.3154 WM20.78872 The India Office
Kimble West UK 20-02-1940 WM20.3261 WM20. The India Office

This machine also would appear to prove they were manufactured.

Thank you for the replies!

@Rob: that particular India Office contract is already mentioned in O&M.

Till so far I have found the following booklets with information not yet mentioned in O&M (from various owners):

That photo is of some of my handbooks and I am pretty sure you sent me a note asking for copies which I forwarded to you but I never received an acknowledgement from you.
