just rebuilding my WDM20 back to its original military colours. really looking for a near andover (hants) based engine guru who can help me start its as nearly broke my leg off the last few times i did it.
If you have the timing right??? and you then retard it about a third of the lever travel....(So that it doesn't kick back!) and then get it over compression with the aid of the valve lifter. Give it a good swing on the kick starter.
I'm in Bournemouth and used to visit Andover every weekend (South Street). Last time I went there a couple of years ago, I had a job to find my way around as it has altered so much. Ron
to protect a dodgy knee I sometimes use the valve lifter to remove compression and kick it a couple of times in quick succession to get the engine spinning, then with my foot away from the kickstert lever, drop the valve lifter. It usually starts and my foot is in a safe place!
Retarding the ignition is necessary as Ron said.
