Freebie M20

Bet that got your attention !

Many moons ago (1957) I moved to a camp on the Siam border with a REME detachment.
In a tented workshop we found that the previous unit had left behind a WM20 in perfect working order, so we had it for free and used it to cabby around.
I often wonder how the previous mob explained it's loss.

I can't post pics here, but the Rego number was 86YE23. Any info on this bike ?

Re: Freebie M20

Looks like it was in Malaya at some point before or after?

Would love to see the pictures.

Re: Freebie M20

Yep, it was in Malaya. Near a place called Naka, out from Alor Star, right on the border with Thailand (Siam).
For info, I was with 2 Infantry Workshop Detachment, with 410 Ind.Plant Troop R.E. and 11th Field Regt R.E.
Mixture of Australian, British and Malay units.
It was a Black Area.

Can you post the pic if I send it to your email ?

Re: Freebie M20

Those were the days, when you could find a working M20. For free.
Nowadays people struggle to find a decent kick start quadrant (!)

Re: Freebie M20

Cheers Rob
I am not on the bike, I took the pic.
Looks like Nobby Taylor on the pillion was excused boots on that day!
Black area accounts for the weapons, we had to carry them 24/7.
