Lycetts Aero Elastic saddle badge material

Gents, does anyone of you know whether the pre war Lycetts Aero elastic saddle badge with the rounded edges as discussed a while ago by Nathan Saunders is made of aluminium or a silverised brass material?
Unfortunately I cannot find that discussion anymore on the forum.
Does anyone have an original?
I hope to get sufficient information to have them made by a German firm.

Cheers,

Rob

Re: Lycetts Aero Elastic saddle badge material

I was lucky enough to be given this detector find from the beach at Malo-les-Bains...It's brass, but there is something about it which makes me wonder if it had been nickel plated...however, it's been too long in a saline environment to be sure.

Hi Rik,
That's briljant! Could you share the dimensions of the badge and a photo of the backside?

We can have some repro's made.

Kind regards,
Bastiaan

Thanx Rik! Could you also measure the width and thickness of the material?

Re: Lycetts Aero Elastic saddle badge material

It's quite difficult to measure, due to the curved edge lip...I'm coming up with .25mm at the thinnest point but there is quite a lot of distortion all the way round.

The overall size is 61,9 x 13,3mm.

Is it feasible to have press tooling made ? There are certainly no accurate pre-war Lycett replica plates available. Most that I've seen have been etched brass, as per the Terry badges (which are closer, but still not 100% accurate).

Re: Lycetts Aero Elastic saddle badge material

Milling that from a good CAD drawing shouldn't be hard. Only down side would be the machine time to get a good finish.
