position of engine shaft pinion

Hi All.
Where should piston be when inlet cam dash and exhaust cam dot are lined up with engine shaft pinion marks.
Can it be 180 degrees out, or am i just having a moment.

It can't be 180 degrees out, as the pinion is keyed onto the shaft and 180' out would put the dot and dash at the bottom and impossible to line up with the cams. Ron
