Desperately seeking someone with a surface grinder or similar, who can shave those pesky rear wheel bearing seats to suit fatter new bearings. My local engineer said losing 0.050" would wear out his cutting stone and take hours. This is starting to feel like a quest. As ever, any help or direction appreciated.

You can buy alternative "quality" replacement bearings 30204. However these are slightly wider which necessitates the bearing cup support rings (inside the hub) being reduced by 050" (50 thou) each. Easier to get your engineer to make two new ones in mild steel. Ron
PS I expect Darren Wrudd from this site can give a good price for the bearings.
