Hello Forum. I recently found and bought 2 WW2 engines. They have been in a dark shed for 37 years and I would like to know more about this. It concerns a Triumph 3HW with frame number TL 31649 and engine number 3HW 47 649. There are no registration papers. the second is a BSA M20 with framenumber 70921 and engine number H20 89538. The BSA has a valid Dutch registration. Does anyone have more information about these machines? They may be for sale. They are in The Netherlands near Arnhem. I can mail pictures.
TL 31649 is an early frame number, 3HW 47649 a slightly later engine, it's possible that they are a matching frame and engine, is 1 in the frame number a 7,or the 7 in the engine number a 1,if so they are matched frame and engine.
I am new here and have now idea how to enclose a picture but I took a second look. The 7 in the engine number looks like a 1 indeed. In the frame is clearly a 1. What does the "7" look like?
Bart I think it would be an impossible coincidence that the numbers factory match apart from that 1 and 7. email me the pictures if you want and I'll post them up for you. Ron
Frame number TL 31649 looks good, same style as this frame number in the photo below.
Engine numbers below are from the same contract as your engine 3HW 41649.
Engine number below is a very early 3HW (RAF contract?) and shows the number 7 stamp that they used.
