I hope I'm not speaking out of turn here, but I've heard from Henk that after several complaints from forum members about Nathan, he's decided to bar him from making further posts.
I'd just like to say that I've told Henk I fully accept his decision but that I'm not fully in agreement with it. I'll keep my own personal opinion about Nathan to myself for now, but I don't recall him ever being abusive to anyone......ON THIS FORUM! I think it should have been discussed further. Ron

I think it's interesting what Nathan is trying to do with his project, but unfortunately he has a condescending, arrogant attitude which rubs people up the wrong way without actually being blatantly insulting. I stood up for him when we've had conversations in the past as I hadn't noticed him be rude to anyone, but after reading his posts since, I realise how he's upsetting people. There's definitely a clash of personalities with him and Ian that wasn't going to resolve itself and Ian felt it best to step back to save any more conflict. I have spoken to Ian and understand his view.
It's a shame it has come to this although not to much of a shock. I hoped Nathan would learn some forum etiquette and calm down a bit, but from what I've heard he's like on other forums, this seems to follow him around and why he feels he's always defending himself.

I also don't recall him being abusive here..., in contrary, some of us have been abusive to him......the insults he had to take... shameful and not forum worthy.....
Thought the forum was stronger and able to handle Nathan here in a correct way.....
He clearly upsets some people here who's problem is that ???..... i respect the way Nathan stood up to the pressure and replied how he saw it...
And now banning Nathan to get Ian back ?? Think there is room for both here if they leave eachother to their own.
We are here to learn and share but are all different, ... we can't be all friends, would be nice but not always possible...
Hope it is not true, if so it will be a big disappointment for me in this forum...
Anyone here familiar with the TV Series Red Dwarf? Nathan's demeanor reminded me of one the characters on that show. When I moderated a forum I had other options beyond flat out banning- I could impose a 24 hour cooling period (or week) or a per day limited number of posts. It's Henk's thing, if he was getting complaints he needed to act. I've seen other lovely forums disappear because of the behavior of one person before. On Facebook there's a group called the BSA WDM20 Cult, Nathan might start posting there more regularly. Or start his own blog- I'd absolutely pop in now and again to check on his progress.

I’d just like to add my appreciation of all that Ian has done for this forum and the considerable amount of help he has given me,both on and off forum, without which my bikes would probably still be languishing in a corner of the shed.
I am sure I am not alone in having relied upon his expertise and willingness to share his extensive knowledge to enable us to pursue our hobby - and avoid costly mistakes.
He has, in my opinion, always been informative, modest and courteous, even when confronted with sometimes “challenging” situations. It is only in the context of the recent exchanges that I have ever detected the slightest note of irritation in his postings. I do believe that Nathan has, for some, an interesting story to tell but I note also that the only real discordant notes that I have detected in this forum to date have occurred since he started posting a few short months ago. Consequently, I applaud Henk’s actions and hope that we do not again encounter a situation where a long respected contributor is made to feel that they need to distance themselves in order to avoid abuse and protect the integrity of the forum.
Ian, please do reconsider your decision. Your contributions in the form of posts and the technical articles will be sorely missed, but I think we will mostly suffer from the loss of a liked and respected member of the community.
Whatever you do, enjoy your retirement and stay safe.
As a post script: when I read that Ian was withdrawing from the piston and valve projects my initial concern was that he had health issues, thankfully it was nothing more serious than a pain in the arse that prompted his actions.
It is very distressing when grown men can not behave like grown men.
Very sorry that Ian has decided to withdraw he will be greatly missed
OTOH I had to do a search to work out who Nathan was and he definately will not be missed.
I keep going on about cyber security and keep getting called parranoid but one reason is if people like Nathan get a set against me all they can do express that here on the forum and not persue me on any other form of social media.
In fact I just googled me & I still don't exist.
The email address that I use to join all forums has a rule on it to put all incomming email directly into the trash which gets emptied every session , thus if people want to harass me by email I never ever see it .

I am so sorry to see that Ian has left. I found his posts informative and could see that he cared about helping. His heart is in the right place and many have benefited from his input. I found Nathan to edge towards self absorbed pedantic posts. They were all about him and all about what he was doing ... and it wouldn't stop. I did not see a desire to help others and and could not see that his heart was in the right place.
Regards, Scott D
I feel I should mention that I have re appeared...Firstly I'd like to thank those who posted here and e mailed me such positive comments about my previous contributions...I really do appreciate that...
I'd also like to say that I don't like to see anyone get banned from this forum and regard it as a regrettable event. Nathans project was an interesting one in many ways after all....Further, I have not suggested that course of action at any point, either on or off forum...There was a clash between myself and Nathan and my answer to what I new would be an ongoing negative situation was to withdraw for the general good, not to suggest a ban...
I would also point out that any idea he was banned to enable my return is factually incorrect and of course, no one individual has primacy over any other individual here on the forum...
Nathan managed that on his own based on the complaints made to Henk by other forum members and I would imagine, Henks observations and assessment of the situation generally....At the end of the day he is the arbiter of decisions on how this forum is run, as he should be...
I hope a line can now be drawn under this and 'normal service' can be resumed...Ian

Good to see your still on here Ian I haven't posted on here for proberley two year but read it most days. I've never met any of you on here in person but you get a feel for people and I would certainly miss Ians dry sense of humour it always makes me smile... Let normal service resume.

Welcome back Ian,
As the last post says let normal services resume.🤗

Posting anonymously as I do not wish to voice my personal feelings publically. I must concour with Ron and several other members in voicing my discontent with Henk's decision. This message was sent via Facebook from a well established member of our community to Nathan......I feel several strong personalities have succeeded in bullying Nathan and forcing Henk to submit to their personal agendas. Myself and the majority of forum users have no problem with Nathan's posts and despite being constantly hounded Nathan never retaliated but instead voiced his viewpoint in a mature and constructive manner. So you are not John Smith, you are Nathan using some someone else's computer?
From the start I have had no problem with your/his project, I enjoy discussing component changes, however "Mature" is not a word that can be used for Nathan, I'm beginning to wonder if is actual age is nearer 12.
This is Henk's site and I don't know who canvassed for Nathans removal, but I support it completely.

I like to think people would not be weak and have the courage to express their views, to which they are entitled, in their own name...If you have something to say, and you don't want to say it publicly, say it off forum and I'll do my best to address your grievance....
I have no 'axes to grind' at this point and I'd rather this didn't rumble on here and spoil everyone elses enjoyment as I have stated repeatedly...You have my e mail address..... Ian

Good your back so quickly, Ian, also good to see you already started up your much respected technical advice service again.
I regret the loss of Nathan, it is Henk his choice, but it looks obvious to me that your withdrawal from the forum because of your conflict with Nathan created the situation where a choice had to be made between you and Nathan......
Nathan acted quite different than we were used to here, but he wasn't abusive. At his young age and with his first M20 project he was already coming up with nice new details and research and I am sure he would have come up with lots of questions, pictures, ideas and theory's where we could learn from....
Or at least we could have learned how to deal with a guy like him......... skip his posts if he posts to much......ignoring his arrogance if it irritates.......insulting him like quite a few here did was clearly not the correct way.....
I am disappointed in the way this went, it surely doesn't deserve a medal :disappointed: :disappointed:

['your conflict with Nathan created the situation where a choice had to be made between you and Nathan......']
No...Definitely not..After your previous post suggesting this I was concerned that this might have been the case and wouldn't have found it at all acceptable if it was..
No one is going to get banned from here to favour my status..
I don't consider myself any more 'important' here than anyone else and nobody on the forum should think that either....
I therefore contacted Henk regarding that specific question...He assured me that was not the reason for Nathans ban, explained to me what it was and I don't doubt the honesty of Henks reply one iota nor do I question it...
On the other hand, I agree the whole situation went too far, got out of control and it wasn't a great result..Something not to be repeated....Ian

Sorry Ian, it looked like it but good to hear that was not the case........I do remember you were always in favour of an 'open' forum and that would be the opposite.
