James ML - Nuts

Hi Gang.

I have just started restoring my early James ML and I have a brief question I hope you help me with? Can anyone tell me the size of the top and bottom nut securing the fork spring to the forks?

I hope this makes sense.

Thank you in anticipation.

Re: James ML - Nuts

Steve the top nut on mine is 3/8 BSF. The bottom screws into the fork casting and I assume it's the same?

Re: James ML - Nuts

Thanks Ron.

That’s exactly what I thought.

I bought these size nuts from a reputable source but they do not seam to fit.

I believe the headstock bolt is also the same size and these new nuts do not fit that either.

I have overlooked something somewhere...

Re: James ML - Nuts

Generally these things are built with 26tpi BSCycl fasteners, But BSF and Whitworth threads are also used. BSF threads get courser as they get bigger 1/4" is the same as BSC 26tpi. 5/16" is 22tpi and 3/8" is 20tpi etc. Ron
