I have just bought a couple of contract plates for my James ml off Roy van drop.
I have a frame number of 1362. So my question is what do I stamp on the plate and what size stamps to use.

John, it should be stamped in numbering approximately 5mm tall and as follows:
"S.1972" and then for the catalogue ref "1".........stampings are approximately central to the respective "box" above.....
My very early ML (Frame "ML 27") has a brass plate on the rear mudguard but my other ML later in the same contract carries a stamped steel plate. Both are the same however in stamping....
