Just watched the Spit and Hurricane flypast in Toms honour on the Beeb and got quite emotional. There is RAF and RFC history in my family so I always feel a connection with anything like this. What is it about tne Spit and Hurrie that make us feel this way, me at least.
Maybe its the frequency of vibration of its V12 engine that naturally resonates with us. I have to say I get the same reaction when I hear one! There's something about aircraft sounds... A para veteran friend of mine could still pick out the sound of a Dakota and I remember him stopping mid sentence in his kitchen and proclaiming 'that's a Dakota' as one flew over head.
