To grease or not to grease that is the question

Hi
I'm putting the primary side of me RE CO together, I don't know if I read it on this forum, read it in a manual or dream't it but I'm sure I've heard that if you put a film of grease around the rubber sealing gasket for the front cover it helps to stop the oil leaking out.
Cheers Barry

Yes grease on rubber gaskets does help it seal.

The Norton gasket is the same and I've even managed to get them oil tight on the primary. Silicone the rubber to the inner and grease around the outer. Helps it slide on too.

Re: To grease or not to grease that is the question

I do it the same as Horror....Always use grease. The rubber seal usually sags at the bottom so I put silicone sealant between the rubber and chaincase and prop up the seal till the silicone goes off. Ron

I usually put a smear of waterproof red silkolene waterproof grease on the chaincase rubber between the rubber an the outer case on my 650ss doesn't leak :) Best tip I ever got was not to over tighten the cover.
