I had a intake valve hanging up so I pulled the head & took the valves out. Ground the valves & cut the seats. I was putting it back together today & I'm having trouble with the split keepers seating into the collar. The collar doesn't have a tapered seat & the keepers stick out too far. I didn't look real close when I took it apart but I'm using the same parts I took out of the engine. Any ideas of what's wrong? Thanks
If the valve collar doesn't have a tapered seat for the collets (keepers) you have at least some incorrect parts fitted...
The standard collars have tapers to match the taper on the outside of the collets and the valve has a reduced diameter, parallel section, machined into it to match the parallel bore of the collets...
M20 collets are extended at the lower end to aid fitting, so protrude from the collar even when fitted fully in place...
A photo of the valve, collets and collars would help at this point...Ian
