Hi
Am trying to identify a tank i have that is meant to be m20, it has a balance pipe at front of tank and only 1 fuel outlet at rear off tank, all other tanks i see have 2 fuel outlets and no balance pipe, any help would be appreciated.
That sounds like the one on my M33. It should fit your M20. If for a M33 it will have a cut away underneath to clear the rocker box on the over head valve engine. If you find that it is for a M33 and you don't want it Richard Smith was on this site looking for an M33 tank.
A lot of B series also have a tank with the balance pipe at the front & a single tap at the rear.
The single tap usually had a reserve switch of some sort.
['I have a 1947 civvy M20 which has twin taps and no balance pipe.I thought it was correct...']
The first couple of years after the war contained a number of specification deviations...
If it's a girder fork model the tank is correct...The early post war civilian models were basically WD spec. machines with various WD parts removed but many remaining and refinished in civvy colours and plating finishes...WD parts were substituted as supplies ran out, such as the WD footrests and offset speedo bracket for example...These machines also had the 'sidecar lug' rear frame section...
A full update to specifications and finishes was carried out when telescopic forks were introduced...Ian
Thanks Rik and Ian,
To clarify I have a tank (yet to be painted) with a notched floor to the tank. So I could have it welded to flat bottomed and it wouldn’t be too close to the head/safe?
