WM20 Primary chain case lubricant

Hi all. I’m changing oil in the primary chain case and can’t find a thread on the site with any info.
I’ve drained approximately 1/2 pint out which seems a lot? A mate suggested filling till oil drains from the drain plug. Sadly the oil appears to scoot down the funnel, out the drain hole and onto the garage floor before it has time to accumulate anywhere. The manual states RESERVOIR which is meaningless to me.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I’m a summer rider only and using SAE40 engine oil and gearbox. Would you suggest the same for the primary chain bath?
Cheers.

Re: WM20 Primary chain case lubricant

Yes...SAE 40 will be fine for the primary drive...The M20 primary chain case has a level plug and a drain plug...The level plug is in the front of the outer cover just below the footrest...

Remove the level plug and the large brass inspection plug. Put the bike (off the stand) on level ground and ensure it is standing up fairly straight. Then slowly pour oil in through the inspection plug hole until it just starts to drip from the level plug hole...Replace the level plug immediately...

I use a funnel with a bit of rubber tube fitted over the end and can thus allow the oil to run slowly down the back face of the inner cover until it fills the cases enough to reach the level plug hole...Ian

Re: WM20 Primary chain case lubricant

I just fill it with the oilcan using the level plug hole to fill it up. :droplet:
