Using electrolysis to convert rust

Aloha,

Some time ago (like two-three years or whatever) I mentioned having removed rust from the gas- and the oiltank on my M21 by using electrolysis. Some of you showed a bit of an interest in the method and I think I supplied you with a link to a "how to" webpage.
Anyhow, stumbled upon this video and thought I'd share it here since it is a good description of the method.

If you are doing a gastank made of metal you of course put the negative to the tank and the positive to a metal bar inside the gas tank (make sure they don't touch!).

Best regards,

Simon

(where has the "how to inset a working web-link" gone? I've forgotten how to)

Re: Using electrolysis to convert rust

I used this method a few years ago too and wrote a post about it. Green foam poured out the tank and stained the patio and explosive hydrogen and oxygen is emitted from the water so make sure you do it outside. It worked ok but the best mothod was Phospheric acid.

Re: Using electrolysis to convert rust

Dear God, I had no such drama! Rust just slowly left the inside of the tank and vent on to my anode, or cathode I can never remember which is which. And yup good ventilation is of the essence.
