Re: What keeps oil in the engine

Hello all,

I fitted the crankcases together this evening after installing all the crankcase bearings. I took Ian’s advice and a installed a single shield outer bearing on the drive end. Additionally, I reinstalled the shield that was in there originally. The thing is, I’m struggling to see how the shield operated. It’s not a close fit on the crank nor its housing. Currently it turns with the crank but can be stopped with very little pressure from a screwdriver. (The outer bearing is pressed well and truly home).
Is this how it’s supposed to be?
Many thanks for any advice as always,
G.

Re: What keeps oil in the engine

Once the cush drive assembly is in place, the shield is clamped to the center of the bearing and the whole lot turns with the crankshaft. Ron
