1947 M20

Good afternoon,
First post from a new M20 owner!
I recently bought the bike which is a 1947 M20, I’ve noticed quite a few traces of green paint over yellow paint on the crankcases which seems strange. Not sure how to post photos unfortunately. The engine number is XM204534.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Gino.

Re: 1947 M20

Hi Gino,

If your engine number is XM20 4534 your frame number should be XM20 4768. Does your BSA still have the original engine and frame number combination? The combination I mentioned left the factory 3-2-1947.

Re: 1947 M20

Thank you Henk,
That’s wonderful, the frame number matches!
The frame has all the lugs for sidecar but didn’t have a sidecar fitted when I bought it.
According to my log book the bike has had three owners in its life, originally registered in Bute (Scotland), that’s if the registration number is original.
So the paint on the engine is a mystery.
Do you have other details Henk?
Many thanks,
Gino.

Re: 1947 M20

Hi Gino,

We have lots of information about the war period BSA's but not really that much about the post-war BSA's. I will probably not find a lot more about your BSA. I can send you the factory page with your BSA in it if you want. You best contact my by email about that.

Henk.
