Oil flinger

what is the actual function of this (24-2113)? is it to chuck oil around for lubrication purposes or is it supposed to direct oil away from the drive side bearings and minimise oil escaping to the primary case?

If the latter can I just shim the drive side and leave it out (how thick should it be? Mine are all mangled!)if I fit a drive side roller with rubber shield?

cheers

Re: Oil flinger

It's obviously designed to fling oil up the barrel (leave it out at your peril!) They have new ones at Drags for about 20 Quid and Les probably has them... maybe cheaper? A new one has to be bent in the same position as the old one to avoid accidental movement when fitting. Ron

Re: Oil flinger

The engine seems to operate OK with or without the oil flinger...In fact I've known people that used BSAs in competition who routinely replaced them with a spacing washer of the same thickness...

Saying that, I always fit them myself...Ian
