I have been having problems getting my drive chain correctly tensioned when the gearbox and primary chain are correctly set up. It always seems too tight. Investigating this I found that my chain had 94 links. Am I correct in thinking that I should have a 520 chain 5/8 x 1/4 with 95 links. So am I a link short?

All depends on if you have standard gearing on the gearbox sprocket, you may need a cranked link or sometimes called a half link in the rear chain.

15-16 tooth sprocket 68 links.
17-18 tooth sprocket 69 links.
19-20 tooth sprocket 70 links.

Oops, that was for primary chain. rear chain 95 links.
