Having trouble getting headlight and taillight to work, any suggestions ?

I take it your battery is charged. Has the bike or any parts been re painted? Maybe check your earth points through out the bike. when I restore a bike I make sure any earth points are clean when I bolt parts together, ie I file paint of the headlight bracket holes to make sure the have good contact with the forks.
Maybe check the wiring on your switch and make sure the switch has good contacts, has a fuse been fitted on the live wire side?

It could be dirty contacts on the light switch. Try using switch cleaner on it.

Which light switch do you have ? Does it have a 'T' position ? Has it worked before ? Does the tail light work on its own on 'T' ?
