Dispatch Riders Equipment/ Uniform

Hi All,
Did dispatch riders have a specific type of bag to carry the dispatches in?

Where can I get a pair of DR "Pantaloons" 36" waist please?
Thanks.

Re: Dispatch Riders Equipment/ Uniform

I guess they would have often used the standard "SATCHEL SIGNALS" Ron

Re: Dispatch Riders Equipment/ Uniform

The "satchel, signals" was used for all sorts of jobs, it was quite well padded and used to store radio headsets in armoured vehicles, but I have never seen proof that they carried messages in them?

Re: Dispatch Riders Equipment/ Uniform

In an early-war context, it's rare to see a Signals DR with anything more than his respirator case slung. Later on of course, the machines were fitted with panniers.

In action, despatches were often single-sheet messages and there are a couple of photos which seem to show them simply being put inside the jacket.

Re: Dispatch Riders Equipment/ Uniform

I guess for longer distance work during pre-pannier days, a DR would need a large pack for his kit. Ron
