Guys, beside my trusty beloved BSA outfit, I also own a BMW R51/3 1952.
I would like to make my own rear drum brake operation rod.
The original (twisted) rod is 6mm in diameter and 520-530mm long.
I do not want to buy a new one, I prefer making it.
From your experience/knowledge: What will the correct steel be for such a rod?
Re: Fabricating my own brake rod; what kind of steel?
Michael
Thanks Mike.
Will stainless steel do?
I have some.
Only if you have HSS dies to thread it with.
Carbon steel dies generally break when threading stainless
And lots of lube no matter what king of die you use.
