No expert on fitting an air filter to an M20 but generally fitting an air filter restricts the flow of air into the carb making the mixture too rich. I doubt that you will need to replace the jet needle but you might have to lower it a notch. you may have to also fit a smaller main jet and screw the pilot mixture in a bit.
