Hi everyone,
I have to write the number on the tank of my bike which is at the end of 1943.
Which is the most correct system for writing the number? You can make the stancil ready to paint inside (by brush or spray), or the decals to be applied. How can I do?
Thank you
I did mine with a self adhesive stencil. I went to a business that specialised in vinyl adhesive stickers and they did on their computer and printed it out within minutes. Stuck it on the tank and used a spray can, once dry peeled off stencil and looks the part.
I did the adhesive stencil also except I hand painted the numbers with a brush instead of spraying. I wanted the hand painted look but I lack the skill to do it free hand. I did the same with the insignias on the tank.

You really 'need' to look at as many period photos of machines from the same contract as possible to see if they were stencilled or
sign-written. If the stencils are made to the correct font then as indicated above, careful brush work within can give quite a good sign-written look. Later contracts could well have been stencilled or used transfers.
Thanks to everyone for the many answers, would you still tell me a site where you can order the stencils to paint or apply? Considering to choose the character of the writing and the correct size.
I do not know how to do.
For the written tipoligia I'm attach some photos of tank number near mine.
Another vote for Axholme. He's in the hobby, the stuff is good quality and he's easy to deal with. Send him scans of the photos, tell him what it's for and ask his advice. He can easily tailor a design and will send you a scan before he cuts the stencil.
The numbers in your photographs look to be sign-written. A skilled painter would have chalked two lines and then painted them freehand. Few of us could get anywhere near that.
I used my laser engraver to cut the template on paper then using spraymount fixed to tank after the glue had dried a bit . Then lightly sprayed with rattle can a couple of times.
