Cas I tried 3 different old Ewarts taps and found that a 5BA screw, screws in but gets a bit tight on the thread. But a 4BA tap easily runs through and makes a perfect thread. Either screw would have to be the right length with a point for the plunger slot.
Well I wouldn't mind a couple as spares Ken. From memory, it's only Royal Enfied, Triumph and James ML that have the punger type taps, and it's easy to drop a screw and never see it again. All the rest are the 2 cork slide type taps. Ron
BTW I've found a good replacement for the cork seal. A few nitrile o-rings (of the correct size) are a great replacement. I can supply the o-rings and a new sealing washer for a Ewarts tap for $5 plus postage if anyone wants,
I was hoping to include a replacement screw as well, but that will have to wait.
I'm also contemplating making anti wet-sump kits which will consist of a check valve and/or a complete oil line with check valve included. LMK if anyone is interested. the valve with oil line and fittings will be around $30. I have black braided 5/16 oil line and nice ends.
Long term I don't think Nitrile will hold up to modern fuels.
My nitrile gloves swell & soften if they are wet with fuel for a long time.
This happens when removing silicon from places where it never should have been.
Would butyl be a better material considering all of the scrap solvents that end up in "fuel" which is not petrol, now days.
I will have these in nitrile as well as Fluorocarbon rubber(viton). BTW, Viton is a proprietory name rather than a class of rubber.
I'm certainly no rubber expert but I do know there are many grades of both types. What I'm gonna do is let a few o-rings sit in our lovely E10 gasoline for a few days and see what happens.
