D Day Calendar

Hi Friends!
I need to know if there is already an updated calendar of the events that will be held this year for the anniversary of D-Day.
I want to travel with some friends and I need the calendar to organize the trip.
Sorry the offtopic...
Thanks in advance!

Re: D Day Calendar

LUIS. i don't think any official DR tour is arranged for this year, but a rough plan of ride outs planned so far are:-
4th June Don Fife memorial run (see thread above).
5th June Pegasus Bridge and allied motorcycle gathering.(again see thread about it)
6th June visit to the American sector Carentan- St Mare Du Monte- St Mere Eglise etc.

From 31st May quite a lot of us will be camped at:-
https://www.pitchup.com/campsites/france/basse-normandie/calvados/etreham/camping_reine_mathilde/
Where we can be visited in the evenings when we are back at camp.

Prior to the three longish runs, me and my mates will probably visit more local venues like Bayeux, Port-en-Bessin, Longues sur mer battery, Arromanches......and sampling the local food and drink.

I guess a more comprehensive overview of events can be found through the internet.

On the 5th you mention an allied motorcycle gathering ? Is that the one advertised for 1pm at the pegasus memorial museum ? What that all about then.

Re: D Day Calendar

Richard, the gathering on the 5th is simply an opportunity for us all to get together as we have not been able to arrange a Guinness World Record attempt this time. It is for Allied WD WW2 Motorcycles and we have been invited to park our bikes within the Pegasus Museum close to the original bridge. We would prefer that you do not arrive before 1.15 in order to allow time for the previous service to disperse. The event will be marshalled and you will be directed to park on arrival. Hope to see you all there. Cheers John

Re: D Day Calendar

John. Thanks for that I will definately attempt to get there, hopefully as part of the rideout from Etreham. Do you know what time the parachute jump is happening at sannerville ? Will it clash at all with the bike meet (maybe not , I think the jump is scheduled for about 16.30 ??).

Re: D Day Calendar

Our usual route from Etreham is through the country, away from the horrible coast road and arriving at Pegasus via Douvres. If the approach to the bridge is barred? We then have the option of shooting up to Oisteram, over the lock and down the other side of the canal. But on the 70th anniversary the approach to the bridge was shut from both sides, as Charles and Camilla were in attendance.

Our last option then is for French speaking riders to try and talk our way through??? Ron

Re: D Day Calendar

On the 'Despatch Riders of WW2' facebook page, I put a question up today asking how many were riding out in Normandy on their bikes. 28 positives so far. Most are probably known but there may be a few individuals out there looking to meet up somewhere. I promoted the Pegasus Memorial meet.

I found another group on Facebook looking to get rideouts and bikes together.

Re: D Day Calendar

Good evening Ron
A couple of questions if I may ?
1. What time approx would you be leaving the Etreham campsite for Pegasus bridge trip ?
2.I have tried to followthe trip on the 6th June heading for the American sector but cannot seem to find the starting point/time ?
Regards
Paul

Re: D Day Calendar

I guess we'll be leaving about 10-10.30 to get to the cafe well before the allotted arrival time of 1.15 at the museum. Again, nothing carved in stone for the 6th, but we'll probably be leaving the campsite around 10.

Just to reiterate. None of our ride outs are part of any official tour.....It's just what we are thinking of doing as a group. Ron
