How fast do you have to drive a lorry to get a 40 gallon drum airborne ? I assume that it was full ? It's a shame no serial number is mentioned for the bike or the serviceman.
10 years later, at his local pub, Cpl Hill dazzled the ladies with the story of how he got his Purple Heart... replacing the truck with a B-52 and the oil drum with dangerous ordinance about to be dropped on the 3rd Reich headquarters. 😃
This poor sod clearly knows what the priorities are - no damage done to the bike!!! but blimey i don't envy him with his big toe, still it may have kept him safe for a bit. This is the kind of fascinating document you generally don't get to see!! Wonder if he got any sick leave!!!
