Renewal for my UK Motorcycle Insurance £139 with Cherish / A Plan for a BMWGS, WLA plus my BSA WM20 ....Footman James renewal from £169...have a guess....£358!! Thankfully that didn’t auto renew.
In the good old days, loyalty was rewarded with lower prices (or at least smaller price rises) to keep you as a customer. Now Days loyalty comes at a price, many experts warn against auto renewing your insurance for this reason. 18 months ago my car insurance went from £450 to £1,040 for no apparent reason (it had already gone up with the previous car because it was an automatic, so I assumed it would go down when I reverted to a manual car). I went on a couple of comparison sites and got a renewal for £425 a year, job done.
My pals insurance went up to £330 for his three bikes (Harley Road King, 2 x Indian Enfields...He wasn't too happy as it had gone up for no real reason...
However, during the last year he had fitted a solo seat to the Road King so he rang them up to tell them that he could no longer take a passenger on the bike...Reduced risk you would think....No, they then gave him a new quote of £435...He refused to pay that and said he would go elsewhere, so they dropped it back to £325...
Making it up as they go along methinks and it seems they'll take your money if you are happy to pay it without complaint...Ian
average price for fully comp is about £120 region, ten years ago i had a norton navigator, i called up and it cost me a whole 3.50 extra to insure.
i dont know how they work out the numbers, it seems to be throw a number and see if it sticks.
Don't forget, the recovery services do this too. Earlier this month I pointed out that my RAC membership renewal fee was significantly higher than a widely advertised 'new members' offer and after a short 'bear with me' pause when I said I'd go elsewhere, I renewed at the online offer price. It pays to negotiate but do be polite, it's not the fault of the phone operator!

There's no haggling with Carol Nash, the price they quote is the price. I've got 7 bikes insured for the road with them and it's £500+ :flushed:
The latest thing you have to check it that you are insured to take a pillion, which to me is just another excuse to bump the price up. You don't have to get insurance to take passengers in a car so why do you on a bike. When my son checked his insurance it said he couldn't take a pillion, how bloody stupid.
Interesting.
Down here pillion insurance is part of the registration and very expensive for motorcycles.
Property insurance for the M20 is around $100 to $600 depending upon who you use.
As for loyality, that is something only dogs understand now days .
As a matter of course. I change all of my suppliers every year.
And I have found, if you do a few Google searches before you ask for a quote you always get better offers.
Some times you can use Big Brother to your advantage.
I hated doing this as by prefference I would like my money to go to the operator who actually pays for the technicians who climb poles & keep my water, electricity & internet connected but the truth of the matter is stay with one provider for more than 3 years and you end up paying near double the average rate.
Now I for one am happy to pay a reasonable rate as every one needs to be able to run at a profit & make a living but now days the parasites who wear $ 10,000 suits & worship money can not understand the difference between loyality & laziness so if I do not shop around for the best price I get slugged with maximum rates .
And the biggest con is combining all of your insurances ( bike, car, house etc ).
Big discounts to do it then massive price hikes once it is done
