Oh learned ones,
This is probably a daft question - especially as I have been spannering for many years but...
How do I drain the oil on my 1939 M20 so that I can give her some new stuff?
Its a dry sump so it won't just drain will it.
Advice please - many thanks
Kimble
There will always be a little oil in the sump, sometimes quite a lot, I think some early M20s don't have a drain plug, in which case you have to remove the sump plate.
There should be a drain plug at the bottom of the oil tank to empty that.
I use a pump and will never ever go back to drain pans again.
Boating supply stores keep them is a variety of types from syringes on steroids to you beat electric ones.
Good thing about using one is you can suck out the oil tank almost dry therefore removing all of the sludge from the bottom of the oil tank.
I have a 6 liter manual one and with the thin suction tube it will also suck oil spills off the workshop floor
Thanks All...
I'm a little embarrassed, it's OBVIOUSLY really straightforward isn't it?! - I'd just never noticed the drain plug in the oil tank, for some inexplicable reason.
Anyway I drained the tank, Flushed it clean, cleaned the filter, drained the sump and also cleaned the sump filter before stocking her up with some good quality straight 40 - and I swear she sounded and ran better but that's probably rubbish!
Thanks again oh wise ones.
