Yes on the second part of your post. Thousands of proper pannier bags were made and still being sold off for a few shillings after the war. Ron
Yes they are a similar size but a different design and apart from the leather corners and bottom clips, there are the side and rear reinforcing strips and the top, male and female joining straps. Ron
