Pannier Bags/Large Packs

Sorry if this is a daft question but, were large packs sometime used for pannier bags during wartime or is this just an inexpensive option that some restorers use?

Yes on the second part of your post. Thousands of proper pannier bags were made and still being sold off for a few shillings after the war. Ron

Thanks for the reply, Ron. Surprising, as they seem to be a perfect fit for the frames, just lacking the leather corners and lower clips.

Yes they are a similar size but a different design and apart from the leather corners and bottom clips, there are the side and rear reinforcing strips and the top, male and female joining straps. Ron
