Uk insurance for WM20, but I have not passed my bike test (yet)

I am collecting my WM20 tomorrow and have been trying but failing to get insurance cover. All the online providers are declining to quote and I am sure it’s because of my lack of license.

Does anyone know a company who provide cover for a learner and so it is protected whilst transporting it home (4 hour drive) plus whilst in my garage? I have my CBT on Friday and will be going for direct access so I hope to have passed within a couple months.

Cheers

Try asking for lay up insurance, that’s what I’ve hot cover theft and fire at nominates address and (I think “unpowered transport” ie on a trailer.
Got the FILs Honda CB550, BSA Gold Flash & my WM20 covered for about £160.

Dont really know the rules now but i dont think you can ride a 500cc bike without passing your test you dont say how old you are you should be able to get third party fire and theft .I don't think you can ride a 500cc straight after passing i am sure there is a cc limit .Sorry for saying things arse about face .

I am 50 and on the direct access route which I am told means I can ride a 500cc straight after passing my test. I think the new restrictions are aimed at younger folk and there are exemptions for bikes with low bhp.

I will look into lay up insurance once I am back from collecting it.

Thanks

Re: Uk insurance for WM20, but I have not passed my bike test (yet)

A female friend of mine in her 50's past her motorcycle test September last year and has amassed a collection of nine bikes in just over a year. She became very distraught last month as she tried to get insurance for some of them. Every company she tried, would only offer cover once you had over five years with a full licence.

I suggested that she tried this firm. Not because I use them myself, but as they feature my Tilly in one of their adverts, I thought it only fair to recommend them.......She is all happy with insurance cover now.

I'm insured with 'Premium Choice' for my military collection, since they are the eventual company to take over from A C Miles who I started with over 30 years ago.....But I don't know their policy on new drivers, but it's also worth a try. Ron

Ey up Ron, Does this make you an "insurance pimp",😂😂😂😂😂? Seriously though Ron, my mate, "Arnie", went through the same painful process. I'll get back with details of his outcome.👍👍

Thanks Ron. I will give them a call, I also own a 1964 series 2a ex-Parachute regiment Land Rover so worth a chat on both counts.

Hello Gurmot. Just spoken to my mate and he is with "Cherished". His renewal for his 2nd year of riding, has just come through at £140,with breakdown cover and a maximum of 4000 miles on a machine valued at£6000.
Hope this is of some help.
Pete.
