Re: Any tips / must see on a trip through Yorkshire and Lake district?

Hi Pat

If you are in Helmsley, North Yorkshire this coming weekend and you like bikes and bands, The Farmyard Party run by MAG is on from 15-17 June. Just park up in the market square if you don't want to camp. This is now probably the biggest rally in the UK since the Bulldog Bash closed. See MAG's website for details. Camping is cheap and even if you are not the rally type, it is a good base for all of North Yorkshire which is stunning.

From the ferry, head for Beverley (which is a nice market town) then north to Malton (stop at Wetwang chippy before you get to Malton), then on to Helmsley.

York railway museum is really good if you are into trains.

There is a small WW2 museum, Eden Camp, which is near Malton, North Yorkshire (again not far from Helmsley). It's not the Imperial War Museum, but not too bad if you have a few hours to kill.

Charlie,

I don't think that there's only 3 Lancasters around, maybe 3 with running engines etc. I know of 2 in Australia.

Hi Pat

Forgot to mention, Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh Castle and Holy Islands on the North East coast are also worth a visit if you are sailing back from Newcastle.
