Any tips / must see on a trip through Yorkshire and Lake district?

Hi all,
I will be taking the wm20 on a weeks' trip from next saturday from Hull up north and back from Newcastle. You may have guessed I am from Holland.😂
We will be enjoying the countryside (Dales, national parks, Lakes etc) but I was wondering if there are must see places like museums or old airfields you can recommend?
Also nice events or runs you may be aware of I would live to hear from.
The internet is full of info but I prefer your referrals!
Cheers and thanks,
Pat

Hi Pat,

I hope that you will enjoy your trip over here? I live near Haworth in West Yorkshire.

If you like planes? There's the Yorkshire Air Musuem at Elvington, just outside York.

Could recommend delay going North for a day and go down Lincolnshire to East Kirby to the museum with the worlds third only remaining Lancaster Bomber, weather permitting they bring it out Wedesdays and Saturdays run the engines up and taxi it,well worth a visit

Hi Pat

If you are in Helmsley, North Yorkshire this coming weekend and you like bikes and bands, The Farmyard Party run by MAG is on from 15-17 June. Just park up in the market square if you don't want to camp. This is now probably the biggest rally in the UK since the Bulldog Bash closed. See MAG's website for details. Camping is cheap and even if you are not the rally type, it is a good base for all of North Yorkshire which is stunning.

From the ferry, head for Beverley (which is a nice market town) then north to Malton (stop at Wetwang chippy before you get to Malton), then on to Helmsley.

York railway museum is really good if you are into trains.

There is a small WW2 museum, Eden Camp, which is near Malton, North Yorkshire (again not far from Helmsley). It's not the Imperial War Museum, but not too bad if you have a few hours to kill.

Charlie,

I don't think that there's only 3 Lancasters around, maybe 3 with running engines etc. I know of 2 in Australia.

Hi Pat

Forgot to mention, Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh Castle and Holy Islands on the North East coast are also worth a visit if you are sailing back from Newcastle.

Pat

ps Newcastle is really very good for a night on the town.

If you are going up through the Dales you could do worse than calling in at Richmond for the castle and the nearby Green Howards Regimental Museum.

Hi all again,
Many thanks for all your suggestions. We will have quite some work checking them all out.
Tomorrow we will be boarding at Hook van Holland but I will keep an eye to the site for more.
Looking forward to a memorabele week now!
Cheers
