I got this “tool” recently from someone.
It was made many years ago, the screw is stuck, the nut is not perfectly cantered or aligned,
The welding is crude, but the idea is great!
Many times the internal threads of the clutch sleeve are too far gone to be used, and I use a puller from the outside,
With a very limited access and a potential to cause damage.
I see this simple homemade tool for the first time and love the idea.
Yes, the plate has to be out for using it, but when we pull the assembly out, the plates are usually already out.
Anyway, thought to share, should anyone has a spare clutch nut and like to make one…
Hi Noam...I'd like to see that, whatever it is...Photobucket won't do it any more though...I now use Imgur for loading pics to the forum...very easy...(It must be for me to do it:laughing: )....Ian
I have just mailed some 7 pics to your email.
(Last time my mails from this address made it automatically to your"Junk" folder,
So better check there- if you do not get it...)
I shrank the photos a lot to fit for the mail, but it is pretty clear.
If you wish, I can take more photos and send.
Yes Henk.
As mentioned, I did not weld it, just got it as-is,
But the concept is brilliant.
So simple and as long as you have the outer threads on the clutch,
It should work theoretically even better than the internal thread,
Which is shorter, if summing the total thread length, as it is internal and the diameter is smaller...
BTW,
I tried to put in more photos when I put these ones, but instead I got a clock icon,
So I took it down.
I shell try what Ian and you suggested.
Thanks for the pictures Noam...Yes, lovely welding indeed...Nevertheless a simple and effective idea which is probably better than the original puller...
I think I would also add a 'top hat piece' with a 1/4" shank and an outside diameter just below the root size of the main shaft thread...That could be fitted into the shaft so that the bolt isn't working directly onto the end of the main shaft thread...Ian
Or just insert a screw with nice shoulders into the shaft before pulling,
Like the service manual shows to do with the Engine Shaft pinion extractor.
Why do you have to be so "Scientific"?? :yum:
I've just taken apart my "6 spring" clutch on a B33 to find the clutch centre is a 4 spring Triumph type that is defying attempts to remove. My 1" 26TPI puller is stripped and while I'm waiting for a replacement any alternative ideas would be welcomed!
I need to get the centre off so I can deal with the gearbox that frequently refuses to shift and the engine that sounds like a bag of nails! I know what I will (if I can get the bloody clutch apart) be doing over Xmas!
I just Googled Henks suggested "Photobucket Hotlink Fix" and added it, and Noam's pictures have appeared. Took me about 10 seconds to do:slightly_smiling_face: Ron
