Please recommend me some decent petrol taps

…As those I bought at Draganfly some years ago are leaking.
Thank you.

Re: Please recommend me some decent petrol taps

Hi Michael...You don't say whether you want to retain an original appearance...Personally I'm not too paranoid about that myself as I don't like petrol leaks and can't be assed with messing about with bits of cork...

I use what is marketed in the UK as BAP taps...They were fitted to some Italian bikes, later Bonnevilles and Commando's etc.

1/4" BSP at both ends, fitted with a filter and they don't leak...They're not expensive either. My experience of all the replica taps to date is that they don't seal...

If you want to try these taps but can't find any I can mail you what you need...Contact me off forum for that...Ian

Re: Please recommend me some decent petrol taps

Thanks a lot Ian!
I will place an order. I assume that this one is both LH and RH ?

Re: Please recommend me some decent petrol taps

You can fit them either side and the nut at the 'tank end' allows you to position them 'radially' so you can easily get at the lever. On my M20 I paint them black and they are barely noticeable under the tank...Ian

Re: Please recommend me some decent petrol taps

Chase up Jawa taps.
I have not used them myself but a friend plays with Jawa's and he gets a lot of NOS Jawa taps through the Jawa club.
They are all 1/4" BSP and some come as a combined main & reserve.
go to the Jawashop ( one word ) dot & com

Re: Please recommend me some decent petrol taps

The other option is to make up a custom reducer from 1/2 " BSP ? to 8mm and fit any one of a million Japanese or Chinese taps.

Re: Please recommend me some decent petrol taps

Hi Ian

I brought a set of the BAP taps from Monty's off eBay (130895166950). Whilst the tank end is defiantly 1/4" BSP I'm not convinced about the other end. I'm unable to screw the union nut onto the tap, by hand, more than 3/4 of 1 turn. I don't want to apply force. I can screw the same nut on and off the tank end, on both taps, with no issue, but both tap outlets are tight.

In your experience do you need to run a 1/4" BSP die down the threaded 'output' end as it looks to be same thread?

Thanks
Gerard

Re: Please recommend me some decent petrol taps

If you have leaky taps fitted with cork seals, try replacing with seals cut from those new high density foam corks you get on some wine bottles (Italian?). I did mine some 10 years ago and they have never leaked since.

Re: Please recommend me some decent petrol taps

Gerard the taps are listed as 1/4 BSP both ends. I can't imagine that both taps would have a duff thread at the outlet? Are you sure that the threads in your union nuts are not damaged/stretched? Can you try the tank end of your old taps in the union nut before you set too with a 1/4 BSP die. Ron

Re: Please recommend me some decent petrol taps

I had to run a die down both output threads to clean them up. The off thing was there was no visual issue or damage - but it's all good now.
