Military speedo anomaly

Hello all.
Just picked up a spare smiths military speedo, There is a large white S printed on the dial just under the needle, Also the bezel is dull chrome plated steel with the remains of original green paint, Never seen one before anyone know anything about them?

Re: Military speedo anomaly

John, most prewar and upto 1941 speedo's had the matt chrome pointed bezel, although they were all brass.

Maybe you can email me some pictures? welbike@welbike.net

Cheers,

Lex

Re: Military speedo anomaly

Here's John's speedo pictures, I can olnly think, that the "S" stands for steel bezel?? never seen another one in steel, but everything is possible!

Cheers,

Lex

Re: Military speedo anomaly

there is a strange stamping on the face of the dynamo fitted to my'42 WNG, I believe the dynamo to be an original LM the stamping is of the letter R in a triangle, no idea what it signifies. kind regards

Re: Military speedo anomaly

Two photos of the NOS speedo with the S on,it has a brass bezel, the photo of the back of the speedo shows some numbers (codes).

Re: Military speedo anomaly

Hi Steve,
Mine has exactly the same numbers, Another mystery' All the smiths bezels on my other bikes are chrome plated brass so maybe the steel bezel is late/post war when brass was in short supply (Bullets/shells?) the plot thickens'
