Mo1 magneto fitting.

I have a 1944 Ariel wng which should have a magneto body which is held on by bolts. Is it possible to modify a bsa type magneto body, which has locating studs,to fit? Do the studs unscrew?
Thanks Andy

Re: Mo1 magneto fitting.

Hi Andrew, I think the studs on a BSA mag are pressed in?

Royal Enfield sometimes have screw in studs, or you could use a Norton body which is threaded for bolts but then the pickup may be on the wrong side?

The Lucas magneto uses screw in studs....regards Jon

Re: Mo1 magneto fitting.

The Ariel mag is held on by three bolts, one of which is in a cast boss under the mag that is neither drilled or tapped on a BSA mag body. So, you would have to drill and tap that hole.

The other two bolts line up with the BSA pegs which are pressed in but can be removed...These holes would then also have to be drilled to the correct tapping size and then tapped out...None of that is a particularly difficult job if you have access to a decent pedestal drill (or a friendly engineering shop)...

Pick up location and direction of rotation are OK for the WNG I think but check the latter to be sure before you start...

The BSA mag runs anti clockwise looking from the drive gear end...Ian
