Re: New M20 Silencers

Yes he did mention that stainless could sound different to steel. But I'll fit mine fairly soon anyway and see what I've got. Ron

Re: New M20 Silencers

Today i gave mine a quick trial fit just to see what it sounded like..... Something like an original M20 I guess.

Then I cut and drilled the hanging bracket which lined up perfectly, after which I spent a monotonous 1 1/2 hours blasting it with medium grit. I'd say that it's no louder than my previous silencer which is packed with stainless wire wool. And at least it's now the correct shape and size Ron

Re: New M20 Silencers

Very nice Ron. I'd imagine that if they used a decent gauge it will sound quite similar. A lot of pattern stainless exhausts back in the 1980s were of skimpy material (presumably as they weren't worried about them rusting through, they made them thinner ? )

Re: New M20 Silencers

Rik, one thing you can always rely on with Armours, is good quality silencers which they make in house. Chrome is always good quality triple plate too. The pipes are out sourced by specialist tube bending firms and again you can't argue about the quality of the material.....even if they don't always fit And some firms do a better job at reducing the necking effect you can get at the bends.

I guess that the gauge of the material can't really alter from the originals, otherwise one wouldn't fit over the other. Ron

Well I complained to Armours some years ago about the noise my previous silencer made so they cut the end cap off and packed round the through baffle with wire wool and it's been fairly quiet ever since. I hate a raspy, barking bike. Of course I need to get it out in the open for a proper test.

Worst one I've heard lately is the one they supplied you for the B30.....But the new owner loves it, so we make him ride at the back Ron

Looks good Ron

Re: New M20 Silencers

It's a shame these repro silencers are so loud...60-70 years on they should be doing better in my opinion...

How is the B30 running?...Ian

Well he came with me in my van to Normandy this year and rode it 2 up (Caroline from the campsite) all week without missing a beat. I think he'd done about 1000 miles beforehand to iron out any teething problems. There was a gearbox issue, but all sorted fine now.

I think he's taking his newly acquired WLC next year (with 'Betty Boop' painted on the tank)..... and Caroline has booked her pillion seat again. Ron

Re: New M20 Silencers

A note emailed to Armours today.

Good afternoon,

I received from yourselves today an exhaust pipe and silencer for the above.
A very prompt service and well packaged.

I’m somewhat concerned about the straight though silencer you supplied.
I was led to believe that you were making these to an original baffled design.
A sample being supplied to you by Ron Pier (Military Ron)
I’m very worried that this will not be accepted for an MOT and will be a public nuisance.
Do you still make the Ron Pier design?

Re: New M20 Silencers

And the very swift response is...

hello
unfortunately the girl should have checked with you when you said it was a kinked inlet
and if you required the Military Ron design which we do not advertise on our web site
if you could get it back to us we will send you out the Ron Pier baffled silencer
we do apologise but it is easily rectified
many thanks for your understanding

Kind regards

Penny

Re: New M20 Silencers

Mark here is the original silencer that they copied. The baffles are not much to write home about, but is what you should have received.

I really like the sound that mine makes and mates who follow me say it sounds nice......It's all in the eye of the beholder of course. Ron

PS. just read their reply.
