Re: Matchless G3L oil filter retaining parts

Thanks friend for the wonderful illustration. If this is not asking too much can you please help with how the spring goes over the oil filter? That was the most baffling part to me and I see a rod inside the oil tank and how should the filter sit over it? How does the dished washer on top of the filter? ahhh too many things leaving me confused. Might be a simple fix but I am bad at it. Sorry. Please help

Re: Matchless G3L oil filter retaining parts

It's very simple Tavery and I've just taken the cap off my G3L to show you. The oil filter (Tampon ) slides down its housing tube first, then the steel cup disc with spring on top of it which is compressed by the cap.

The manual says to remove and clean every 2000 miles I'd say it's virtually impossible or at least extremely difficult to do so without removing the saddle.....which means the tank has to come off first. Better to throw the tampon over the fence and just change the oil every 1000 miles. Ron

Re: Matchless G3L oil filter retaining parts

Thanks for being so helpful Ron. So I presume that it is the
(1) Oil Filter
(2) Spring
(3) Dished Washer
(4) Brass Oil Cap
Is the order right?

Thanks a lot Ron

Re: Matchless G3L oil filter retaining parts

NO!!! It's the order shown in the picture I took:-
1 oil filter
2 dished washer
3 spring
4 cap

It only makes sense that way otherwise the spring would vanish down inside the filter.
I can't think why you are finding it so difficult to understand

Re: Matchless G3L oil filter retaining parts

So sorry Ron. Like I said I have never seen a filter. I thought the filter is open on one end and closed on the other. Anyways thanks a lot for the clarity.
