Dynamo Commutator segments and current flow

I can measure a current flow between all the segments of the commutator.
As far as I know, there should be only contact between one segment to the one on the opposite side, i.e. 6 o'clock to 12, 3 to 9 etc. and not between all of them.
What is correct?
Thanks.

To test armature properly you need a growler..I have a Crypton made one quite old but does the job...Dave

Re: Dynamo Commutator segments and current flow

I have just refurbished the dynamo on my W/ng, I googled how to test the armature and the advice illustrated showed, check opposing segments then adjacent segments then to earth, I checked mine this way then rebuilt with new[ish] brush plate brushed and bearing, lo and behold it works! any problems speak with Andre Guttman of priory magneto's. kind regards
