Re: WDM20 ??? Found In RUSSIA

Contract S1048 was for 15,000 bikes between September 1942 and November 1943. The sidecar lugs have all been added on. Strangely though it has the early field stand lug on the left side rear frame and the mudguard support has the stud for the early field stand clip, but it's been fitted on the wrong way round. Can you sand the paint and take a picture of the frame number. (Left side headstock just in front of petrol tank) Ron

Does any of this google translate help?

Контракт S1048 был рассчитан на 15 000 велосипедов в период с сентября 1942 года по ноябрь 1943 года. Все колышки для колясок были добавлены. Странно, хотя у него есть ранняя стойка на полевой лебедке на левой боковой раме, а на опоре для брызгодержателя есть шпилька для раннего клипа на стенде, но он был установлен неправильно. Не забросайте краску и сделайте снимок номера кадра. (Левая боковая бабка перед бензобаком)

I rather doubt "sand the paint" is going to translate. Best to keep colloquial english to a minimum.

Re: WDM20 ??? Found In RUSSIA

Well I did the best I can and even translated it into two types of Russian. But "none taken" to coin some colloquial English. Why don't you offer him some better translatable advice? Ron

Re: WDM20 ??? Found In RUSSIA

The number that is visible tells a lot and maybe with careful examination, it might be possible to work out what the last two digits were. WM20 301xx would have been built under contract C7287, probably during late 1940 which suggests that the rear mudguard with the 'contract plate' did not belong to it originally.

Do you know how the bike came to be in Russia ? It has clearly had a long civilian life with chromed parts etc. Was it bought in from the Middle East or even Far East ?
