Matchless G3L – Strange Noise from Clutch (In Neutral)

Hello,

I was restoring the clutch of the WD Matchless and when the bike is in Neutral I have this strange sound as you can see in the Video. This happens when I release the clutch.

Please let me know what the problem might be as most of the parts in the clutch are new or refurbished

Re: Matchless G3L – Strange Noise from Clutch (In Neutral)

hi, check the inside of the outer primary cover, could be rubbing on the oil flinger thing or the clutch could rubbing on the inner case. both could be caused due to incorrect spacer between inner case and engine plate.

thanks, barry

Re: Matchless G3L – Strange Noise from Clutch (In Neutral)

Hi Barry,

I found out the reason for the noise. Looks like the nut retaining the Kickstart ratchet inside the gearbox is loose and there was significant end float in the Mainshaft. After tightening this the noise completely subsided.
Thanks a lot for your advice in this regard
