Re: Colour code for air force blue

The New Testament, Orchard & Madden 207, the Parable of the Air Ministry (Royal Air Force) Colour Schemes:

"Motorcycles supplied direct to the Air Ministry were finished by the manufacturers in exactly the same colour schemes as those supplied to the War Office, this trend remained for the duration of the war."

Amen

And a quote from The Old Testament: "Thou shalt not paint your WD motorcycle in RAF blue."

Re: Colour code for air force blue

Yes Peter, it has a very appropriate British Standard number. RAF Blue/Grey BS 633.

But as Jan states, only for pre and post war vehicles.

The Air Ministry continued to use blue-grey on footpumps though.

This is my 1943-dated Kismet Duplex Master.

Re: Colour code for air force blue

Hello folks, RAF MT vehicles early on were indeed blue/grey, however ground equipment was a totally different shade of deeper blue. When I joined up in 1973 some kit was still original darkish blue. Then ground equipment was being painted yellow before finally chaning over to green.
