Hi Theo

Dumb question, but are they twin exhaust ports?

Re: WD motorcycles Russia?

Yes, some of them have twin ports, upswept like this one.
But there were also models with one exhaust port.

Re: WD motorcycles Russia?

The Russians might well have had Velcette MDD's as I've seen riders handbooks printed in Russian. But the picture looks like a modern mock up. There are several things wrong with the Velo and I can't even see any cable fitted. Ron

Re: WD motorcycles Russia?

Looks like the "brickwork" and vertical stanchion in the background of the two pics are possibly the same.

Re: WD motorcycles Russia?

The museum photo shows two velocette motorcycles by the looks of it, Britain supplied about 1800 motorcycles to Russia in July or August 1944,maybe there are more that survive.

Re: WD motorcycles Russia?

Information from a site on motorcycles used by the Red Army in WW2,Britain supplied 727 Velocettes,200 Matchless, and 679 BSAs,they were sent to Moscow, where this BSA photo was taken in the snow. photo Screenshot_20170610-184812 2_zpswiigwt4b.png

Re: WD motorcycles Russia?

I thought I had a theory then, but I had it wrong.

Are the last 5 digits 22140?

That only seems to fit C5122140 WM20 88740 of contract S1048?
