Re: tourqing head bolts

Throw away the gasket if you are thinking of using a composite gasket too.

The full copper ones are the way to go!

As Ron says the sequence is in the Maintenance Manual.

I have not really bothered with the torque setting (I have an iron head), so tightened up, ran the bike for a while, then tightened down again.

Thanks for that Ron

Re: tourqing head bolts

Providing torque increments are very small, going around in a circular sequence is probably better than following the cross-type or diagonal sequence given in most manuals. The rule is to keep increments small. Once the clearance is taken up, 30 deg nut rotation at a time is about right.
