Re: Anybody looking for an 8" or 6" Lucas headlamp glass?

I only saw this ;-

𝐿𝑒𝑠 𝑓𝑟𝑎𝑖𝑠 𝑑𝑒 𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡 𝑎𝑓𝑓𝑖𝑐ℎé𝑠 𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑢𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑠𝑢𝑟 𝑙𝑒 𝑠𝑖𝑡𝑒 𝑠𝑜𝑛𝑡 𝑝𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝐿𝐴 𝐹𝑅𝐴𝑁𝐶𝐸 𝑀É𝑇𝑅𝑂𝑃𝑂𝐿𝐼𝑇𝐴𝐼𝑁𝐸, 𝑣𝑒𝑢𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑧 𝑛𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑝𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑢𝑛 𝑒𝑛𝑣𝑜𝑖𝑒 à 𝑡𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑎𝑢𝑡𝑟𝑒 𝑝𝑎𝑦𝑠.

I can't make the site alter postage from France to any other country.

Whenever I try to buy anything from France, it goes wrong so I'm extra careful these days.

Re: Anybody looking for an 8" or 6" Lucas headlamp glass?

I went to my local glass shop and had 2x8" frosted headlamp glasses cut for £5

Yes, that works just fine but it doesn't really look the same.

Re: Anybody looking for an 8" or 6" Lucas headlamp glass?

Seller takes paypal so its safe.

" Bjr, svp, frais de porte royaume uni" will get you answer concerning postage.

I get stuff from France via ebay or delcampe regularly and have had no problems, but the post cost is high and to some extent depends on the savvy of the PO clerk.

Hopefuly the euro will go down the pan soon, and it'll all get cheaper.

Re: Anybody looking for an 8" or 6" Lucas headlamp glass?

Ken, I did write to the seller and he advised €14.85 to Belgium and also that the glasses don't appear to have a 'Difusa' transfer (As far as I can see, quite often they didn't) but Lex says that he can see the remains of a marking in the photos.

My last attempt at buying from France involved a dozen NOS KLGs and a seller who changed his mind as he decided he'd 'prefer to keep them' after telling me he'd get a quote for postage...Not to mention the French eBay seller who sent me someone else's purchase....then credited me the costs of sending it on which led to eBay being convinced that I had not yet made full payment and bombarding me with instructions to complete payment!

Re: Anybody looking for an 8" or 6" Lucas headlamp glass?

Oh dear, not being rude but I bet you are in Flemish Belgium? I once fell into the trap of speaking the wrong language in the wrong part....a bit like in some parts of Wales here.

I have to say apart from the high and often erratic post costs I have had no bother with buying anything from France, bought all sorts of stuff and it generally arrives quickly.

A couple of the online vintage dealers have useful stuff you can't get here, I just bought two pairs of grips to suit inverted levers for less than the price of one pair here.

There is still some good stuff to be found there, I always make a beeline for the French sellers stalls at Netley and the like. Found one or two rare parts even if I did have to pay a fancy price.

Maybe they like us rosbifs after all?

Re: Anybody looking for an 8" or 6" Lucas headlamp glass?

Ken, I am indeed in Dutch-speaking Belgium, although it's complicated as Limburg is not really Flanders and was always part of the Prince-Bishopric of Liège so they're not truly 'Flemish' here and I work in the French-speaking part anyway.

French sellers seem fine face to face but there is a significant sub-culture that puts stuff on-line to find out the price and then doesn't really want to sell it and they seem to like renegotiating after a sale has been agreed. Perhaps I've just been unlucky.

Re: Anybody looking for an 8" or 6" Lucas headlamp glass?

I made the mistake of speaking french at a small jumble in Belgium once, looking for FN parts, lots of shaking heads, till one guy looking over my shoulder saw my list written in English, total about face and very helpful from then on. It's difficlt for us Brits to discern where the line is, walking on eggshells.

That habit of asking a price and then wanting to renegotiate is common over here especially in rural parts. I had bikes offered at a price, agreed without haggling, only to be told I agreed too fast so it must be worth more.

I once found in a old nissan hut a fold flat Dodge truck that looked as if it had been driven in straight from WW2 service, markings, all the kit. Lovely nick even for back in the 1970s.

I got a price out of the old bloke, thought about it, then he said plus VAT [he wasn't vat reg anyway] even at that I thought Ok, , No he said it must be too cheap; stick it up your arse then I said.

That was 20acres of old kit called the Machinery Depot near Sissisinghurst in Kent, any one here remember it?

Re: Anybody looking for an 8" or 6" Lucas headlamp glass?

I think that you've nailed it there, Ken, I go after obscure stuff and offer the asking price which makes the old buggers suspicious ! Next time, I'll haggle (I'm not much good at it though).

Re: Anybody looking for an 8" or 6" Lucas headlamp glass?

Re: Anybody looking for an 8" or 6" Lucas headlamp glass?

Well I always put the smooth side out. It makes it easier to remove the dead fly's that get squished at 75mph. Be interesting to know what others think. Ron

Smooth side out, that's where the Lucas logo is.

Re: Anybody looking for an 8" or 6" Lucas headlamp glass?

Re: Anybody looking for an 8" or 6" Lucas headlamp glass?

Oh Wow! you'll get loads of money for that on ebay. It returns most of the light back into the headlight. Hence the title Prince of Darkness.

Re: Anybody looking for an 8" or 6" Lucas headlamp glass?
