Decided to change the rear tyre; should only take five minutes!
This led to deciding to change the bearings, losing two of those tiny little effing screws for the felt washer plate and to add injury to insult I decided to paint the rear wheel - the spokes are now twice the original diameter.
Thank god for pannier racks, they hide a mutitude of sins.
